California here we come! Bozzano Olive Ranch
It comes on a truck, so it's imported. We are always looking at food ideas and love talking to farmers, so a natural evolution has occurred: we are importing and distributing a California Olive Oil! from Bozzano Olive Ranch. We are doing both of their SKU's: TOSCANA BLEND and the Spanish/Italian blend titled A². The California Olive Oil council certifies both as "EXTRA VIRGIN" but even better than that; they are wonderful, taste-friendly quality oils (not too bitter, not too peppery) with tons of olive and subtext flavors. Now here is the background: The Bozzano Olive Ranch really is a ranch, located near Stockton, California. For those of you who have never been, the central valley of California is very much like the Mediterranean in climate and soil quality. These conditions make for great olive oil. The Bozzano family is 4th generation. They devote about 45 acres to olives. Their other cool crop is the (temperamental) princess of spring: CHERRIES!! Back to oil though. The cultivars for the TOSCANA blend contain Frantoio, Leccino, and Pedolino. The cultivars for the A² are Ascolano and Arbequina. The harvest is semi-mechanical. And the press, well these are modern guys.... They are using a Westphalia press. Yes, a German system!!! First time we heard about this was in France last fall. It really is the new wave of equipment, and we were dazzled to be informed of this fact. They have a euro slo pour spout, and a silk-screened label that won't show oil drips.
A² Olive cultivars: Ascolano and Arbequina. This is a medium intensity oil, light green to yellow color. The nose is full, fruity, and floral with distinctive Ascolano olive tones. The taste is of olives with overtones of coconut, apricot honeysuckle. It is well balanced with noticeable pleasant bitter and pungent notes. The finish is long and multi flavored. There are no orgeneleptic flaws. TOSCANA BLEND Olive cultivars: Frantoio, Leccino, and Pendolino. This oil is light to medium intensity oil, light green to yellow color. The nose on this oil is delicate but complete with distinctive green scents. The taste is buttery, and delicate with excellent overtones of apple, green tea, artichokes, and almonds. The finish is with soft bitterness and pungency. This is excellent oil for people who want flavorful oil with classic Tuscan overtones but less aggressive bitterness and pungency. |
